Fearless Friday - I hugged a stranger
You know those people who say, "I'm a hugger," when they meet a new person? I've always been jealous of those people. I want to be a hugger, but my introverted-ness rears it's head and I struggle giving someone even just a handshake.
So... this week, I hugged a stranger. It was at church during the "meet and greet" time (that's so awkward), and I could tell the lady in front of me seemed to be going through something. So when she turned around, she reached out her hand and I took it, but also reached my other hand/arm around her to give her a hug. I decided to just go for it.
And it worked! She said, "oh!" and put her arm around me and gave me a hug too! I was surprised how easy it was to just give someone a hug and for them to give one back. Even a stranger.
Now, sadly I didn't have any other chances to hug any more strangers throughout the week, but I'm going to start doing it more often. I'm going to become a "hugger" even though I'm uncomfortable doing it at first.
I noticed that her attitude changed, and she got happy to receive a hug. What an easy way to brighten someone's day!
I also noticed that it changed the "meet and greet" time for me. Instead of the careless handshake that you give everyone while saying "morning," it actually felt like a time of connecting with other church members. Cool!!
I've decided I'm going to be a hugger... when appropriate... and I'm going to be fearless doing it.
Cheers!
:) this post is so encouraging!
