Worshipful Ways Wednesday - Christ My All

"Christ for sickness, Christ for health,
Christ for poverty, Christ for wealth,
Christ for joy, Christ for sorrow,
Christ today and Christ tomorrow;

Christ my Life, and Christ my Light,
Christ for morning, noon and night,
Christ when all around gives way
Christ my everlasting Stay;

Christ my Rest, and Christ my Food
Christ above my highest good,
Christ my Well-beloved Friend
Christ my Pleasure without end;

Christ my Savior, Christ my Lord
Christ my Portion, Christ my God,
Christ my Shepherd, I His sheep
Christ Himself my soul to keep;

Christ my Leader, Christ my Peace
Christ hath wrought my soul’s release,
Christ my Righteousness divine
Christ for me, for He is mine;

Christ my Wisdom, Christ my Meat,
Christ restores my wandering feet,
Christ my Advocate and my Priest
Christ who never forgets the least;

Christ my Teacher, Christ my Guide,
Christ my Rock, in Christ I hide,
Christ the Ever-living Bread,
Christ His precious Blood hath shed;

Christ hath brought me nigh to God,
Christ the everlasting Word
Christ my Master, Christ my Head,
Christ who for my sins hath bled;

Christ my Glory, Christ my Crown,
Christ the Plant of great renown,
Christ my Comforter on high,
Christ my Hope, draws ever nigh."

Sadly, it is unknown who wrote "Christ My All". It is such a beautiful, yet powerful poem about many of the attributes of Jesus Christ!

You can worship in many ways using this poem, but I often worship by reflecting on each adjective of Christ. I think of an image that allows for the words to ring true in my heart.

Let's take the first stanza of the poem:

Christ for sickness, Christ for health,

Christ for poverty, Christ for wealth,

Christ for joy, Christ for sorrow,
Christ today and Christ tomorrow;

When I worship reading this...

"Christ for sickness" - I think of a time when Christ was still good to me even though I was sick. I can think of the many times I was sick when I was younger, and my mother would tend to me with such love and care. What a way for Christ to show his goodness even though I was sick!

"Christ for health" - I think of a time when I was blessed with good health and was able to lead worship at a church plant I loved leading worship at in Mississippi. There were many Sundays I was able to lead because of the good health God had provided me. It was such a special time of worship with fellow believers, and Christ provided that for me by giving me stable health throughout that journey.

"Christ for poverty" - I think of times I've talked with the homeless, and seen how they continue to see God's hand in their lives. What a testimony!

"Christ for wealth" - I think of how the Lord has blessed me financially throughout my entire life!

"Christ for joy" - I think of times of immense joy that Christ has provided me... moments with best friends, times laughing in the youth group at church, conversations around a delicious meal, worshipping God in the middle of the woods with no one around. Goodness, there are SO many times!!!!

"Christ for sorrow" - I think of times when I've been terribly sad. I have had two depression episodes, and I can think back to how that felt at the time. It felt like there was no hope, no joy, and no understanding... yet God was good and cared for me through those times. He's lifted me out of sorrow and continues to do so time and time again.

"Christ today and Christ tomorrow" - I think of how Christ is the same today as He will be tomorrow, and how he was that same person yesterday. He's steady.

He provides. He protects. He loves. He gives joy. He gives needs and wants. He cares for me, and He cares for you, too!

Continue going through this poem and take time to reflect on each attribute of Christ.

Enjoy this worshipful time with God.

God is good, all the time.

And all the time, God is good.
