Fearless Friday - Do What You Want (Sometimes)

I am a people pleaser. I have been all of my life. This is both a blessing and a curse, and has it's perks at times.

A people pleaser is often someone people want to hang out with. It's someone many people think are cool! But, being a people pleaser can cause stress, sadness, and SURPRISE exhaustion if you do it all of the time.
. . .

I recently had guests in town. They were GREAT guests, but there were times I felt like to be a people pleaser and a good host, I needed to be with them at all times while they were in the house.

BUT, though that people pleaser idea came to play, I decided to fearlessly NOT people please at that moment. So, I went to my room, and I took a nap!

I didn't do this once, but several times while they were here.

I listened to what my body was telling me, which was "YOU NEED TO REST!" and I pushed the people pleasing voice out of my head and I rested.

Guess what happened because of that...
. . .

Nothing. Absolutely, nothing. Me taking a nap didn't bother the guests at all, AND I got the rest my body was telling me that I needed.

WHAT?!?!?!

Who knew you could do that?!
. . .

Now, I don't think that saying "no" to people pleasing is the right answer at all times, nor do I think that always people pleasing is the right answer. There's a balance somewhere in the middle, and it can be sort of tricky to find.

If you're a people pleaser like me, I challenge you to do what is healthiest for YOU! If you need rest, take a nap... if you need some alone time, say no to going out with friends. You can do it!

It takes some practice, but together we can find the balance between pleasing people and pleasing ourselves in Jesus' name.

TGBTG

Cheers!
