Thrifty Thursday - 5 Ways Your Local Library Can Help Save You Money

I absolutely LOVE my local library. It's beautiful inside. Super spacious. Lots of reading corners. And it offers so much more than just books!

Each local library is a little bit different, so you'll have to look into what yours offers, but here are 5 ways I save at my local library:

1 - Rent books!

Everyone knows that it is sometimes cheaper to rent something than to buy it, but the library offers a step up from that, because renting is FREE! As long as you are aware of your due date to return the items you rent, and abide by that timing, you can read all kinds of books for absolutely FREE!

2 - Rent DVDs!

Most libraries now allow you to rent DVDs! So, instead of buying the most recent Avengers movie on apple/amazon/whatever you use, check and see if you can get it FREE at your local library!

3 - Rent equipment!

At the local library I am a member at, they offer different types of equipment such as sewing machines, cameras, and more to the library members. What a fantastic thing to offer people in the community! If your library doesn't do that, suggest it to them and see what happens!

4 - Request holds!

Also at my local library, I can request holds instead of going and trying to find the book myself. This doesn't exactly save money, but it saves me a TON of time!

5 - Use your library like a coffee shop (just bring your own coffee or tea)!

Hopefully your library doesn't have a "no outside food/drinks allowed" sign on the front door. Thankfully, mine does not and therefore I am allowed to make my library my FREE coffee shop. (It's a free coffee shop because I bring my own coffee.)

Sometimes you just need to get out, and now when I might typically go to a coffee shop to do some studying or writing, I'll go to the library where it has a similar feel, but keeps me from paying $5 for a latte!

. . .

Cheers!
