Worshipful Ways Wednesdays - Tithe
Tithing is one of those weird terms you hear growing up in church. You know it's a thing you should do, but no one really explains it to you. Often times, once you grow up and actually HAVE money to tithe, you end up forgetting to do it, and then feeling super guilty about it and don't know what to do.
So, here's 3 Tips to Tithing (so you don't have to take the guilt trip at church):
1 - Let tithing be the first thing you do!
In the Old Testament, God wanted His chosen people to give their first fruits to Him.
We can follow this example by setting 10% of your income aside the moment you get it. It should be the FIRST thing that you do.
If you get paid in cash, put your tithe in an envelope set aside specifically for the church.
If you get paid by check or direct deposit, whenever you see the money hit your bank account, send the church 10% of it online! Most churches now have a way to give online. If yours doesn't, put a word in with a church staff member! You never know!
2 - When you do forget, just do it the second you remember.
You don't have to go down the guilt trip route and feel bad about yourself, and whatever else. When you realize you've forgotten, immediately put aside the money you forgot to tithe. Don't wait and then forget again. Do it sooner, rather than later.
If you're one TO forget, set a reminder on you phone every 2 weeks or on the days you get your pay check!
3 - If you have a steady income, auto-tithe!
The churches that have ways for you to tithe online are mostly like the churches that will have ways you can set up an automatic payment each month so you don't have to even worry about forgetting! How awesome!
So, tithe first, try not to forget, and set up an automatic payment if you can!

Cheers!
